Hey there, welcome back. I know I posted just yesterday with an installment of the July Quilt Challenge but I was having so much fun I decided to use both of my busy pieces of fabric to create something for the challenge – they will both be quite different.

Yesterday I made the block using appliqué with fusible web to build the block. Today I am going to piece the five inch block together using the coordinating fabrics I found back in Week 1 of the challenge.

I had a couple of line drawings to choose from that I created in Week 2.5 of the quilt challenge and I decided this one would be an easy one to piece into a five inch block.

I cut the pieces larger than needed as it is easier to take fabric away than it is to add fabric.

I started by sewing the pieces into the sections of the line drawing. Many of the pieces were sewn on an angle. Remember to cut off the excess seam allowance which I have to admit I forgot to do in a couple of places. No biggie – that area of the block will just have a bit more fabric.

Once the sections were made I squared them off slightly and started sewing the sections together. The two right side sections first and then the left. Oops! I cut off the corner. That’s okay I’ll just add on a triangle.

And voila the 5 inch block is made.

Now to add the little bits of applique to finish it off.

So the instructions from Ruth the other day said that she wanted us to also create the block in grey scale. I haven’t done that so will get busy in the next couple of days with some neutral fabrics and recreate today’s block and yesterday’s block.

Until then…

Happy Quilting
