Hey there, I’m back as promised with my line drawings. View my last post, July 2021 Quilt Challenge -Week 2, to see what the rules are about the line drawings and the next step in this little challenge Ruth and I are having fun with. If you missed the rules for week 2 you can check them out here on Ruth’s blog.

I wasn’t sure which fabric to go with the other day and so I positioned the 3 inch cut out square over several spots of three fabrics. The key to the line drawings is not to get to complicated, not to draw all the lines one sees on the fabric and to keep it simple.

I’m still not sure which fabric I’m going to use so I did line drawings for all of the fabrics I highlighted in the last post.

The squiggles and splashes certainly has a lot going on so keeping it simple is definitely the key to creating a line drawing with this fabric as the inspiration.

I also decided to draw the line in a 4.5 inch square since that is what is the end product. I have no way to blow up the drawing from the 3 inch square.

The second fabric is still busy but not quite as erratic as the first one. Much easier to do some drawings from it.

And the last fabric is definitely the easiest to do a line drawing of and I actually quite like this one. I’ve done one on-point for this one – add a little more interest to the whole thing.

All right – the line drawings are done. Which one will I use? Which one do you think I should use? Leave me a comment and vote for your favourite.

Friday I’ll reveal which one I’m going to use and see what Ruth has us doing next – recreating the line drawing with fabric is my guess – what fun that will be and small pieces could make it interesting depending whether I piece the fabric or use appliqué to put it all together.

Until then…..

Happy Quilting
