Leaves Or Petals Galore

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Inspirational Sunday.

Last week in April Showers Bring May Flowers I thought I would create a cheerful yellow daisy. I’m afraid to say that I didn’t create that daisy at all last week, in fact I don’t think I created anything that day. Sometimes it is hard to find inspiration to create everyday but today that is not the case.

I have been playing with the Leaves Galore Rulers by Sue Pelland Designs and having a grand ole time the last couple of days. These rulers come in 3 different sizes – petite, medium and large. Of course, I have tried out all three.

Many, many weeks ago when I was creating my Sunflower Quilt I made a yellow Bargello run thinking it would be my sunflower but it was far too bright to go with the centre I created. It has been hanging out on my design wall ever since just waiting for me to turn it into a daisy. It has a perfect colour run from light to dark for a bright, fresh, spring daisy.

Why am I playing with these rulers? Well I am going to be doing demos with them at Creativfest in Toronto at the end of the week. I’ll be at the Country Concessions booth showing how to create great designs with these wonderful rulers.

Each day I am also doing a presentation about colour, shape and space and how I incorporate each element into my designs. Stop by on Friday April 26 at 10:30 or Saturday April 27 at 12:30 in the Laurentian Room A to catch my presentation. Hope to see you there.

A close up of the daisy, really it looks more like a dahlia than a daisy – has great depth. Can’t wait to see it once it is stitched down.

I have the same rulers and haven’t used them yet, but I do have a plan in the works and will share it when I’m done. I do love your idea and your piece. Great job!!

Beautiful flowers! Did you put a fusible on back of the fabric before cutting? Thanks for sharing.

How lovely! I never knew that such rulers existed, but I can see how much fun they might be. I doubt that I would have the patience for the bargello part though!

  The rulers are great. I used them to cut the petals and leaves for my Jacaranda tree as well using the S and Z curve portion of the ruler – very cool.
