White J on black fabric

Hey Everyone, welcome back to UFO Spotlight Saturday.

I started out with great intentions today of finishing my Funky J quilt but Murphy’s Law had other things in mind for my day.

I did get all of the stitching done around the appliqué. I have to say that I am very happy with the results and how the light threads look on the darker valued fabrics. Great contrast – mission accomplished.

I wasn’t quite sure what to do with the border – keep it the same size it is now or trim it down. I’ve decided to keep it the same size and quilt the letter J in the borders.

I no longer had the template from my design or if I do I have no idea where it is. I traced the smallest J in the design onto a piece of paper.

Then glued the J to a piece of box board to make it stiff.

As I was laying it out on the border and deciding how to position the J I realised that I only had the Chaco Liner to trace around the shape onto the black fabric. My green Frixion pen definitely wouldn’t be seen on the black. I wanted a marking pen that would come off easily if I didn’t quite follow the line when I was stitching.

I headed up to my LQS, Thimbles & Things to see what they had. I was in luck as they had a white marking pen from Clover that would do the trick.

I arrived home and unpacked my bag just in time for the power to go out. Yep no power. Pretty hard to do free motion quilting with no power.

Needless to say the power was out all afternoon – came on in time to heat up the leftovers for dinner. Lunch was heated up on the BBQ with the camping pots and pans. I even made some percolated coffee with the camp coffee pot – the best coffee ever.

Even though the power was out I was productive and did the hand sewing on a binding and hanging sleeve of my QUILTsocial quilt challenge. All it needs now is the labels. Woohoo. So even though I didn’t get to work on one UFO I did manage to complete another quilt. Unfortunately, I can’t show it to you but do make sure to check out QUILTsocial starting Monday as it is my week for blogging and it is all about the quilt.

Maybe just a little sneak peek to pique your interest.

I’ll get that Funky J quilt done eventually. It’s been a UFO for at least 5 years so what’s another week.

Happy Quilting!
