Hey Everyone, welcome back to Coffee Talk Saturday.
I don’t know where the time has gone but January just flew on by and today is the beginning of a new month which means I need to report in on my UFO situation.
The UFO monthly report reminds me of the song from the Lion King The Daily Report sung by the bird – I think he was a Tucan. I love that movie and play – one of my favourites. I don’t have a Tucan to help me but I do have Frostie. Isn’t she cute up there at the top of the page?
Way back when in January I decided I needed to get a grip on my UFO’s and created a plan to help me stay on track to finish a few of them this year.
The plan was to try and complete 4 per month. Well, this month I fell a bit short on getting 4 completed unless of course you count each placemat individually rather than as one project.
I quilted and bound the 3 remaining placemats I made from a pattern called Modern Convenience designed by Brenda of Among Brenda’s Bags and Quilts last summer. I suspect this is one of my youngest UFO’s. Woohoo they are done. Once I set my mind to finishing them they didn’t take that long either. The placemats are each 14″ x 18″.
The second UFO I finished was a piece I started at least 10 years ago in a class at Quilter’s Getaway in Yellowknife. It was a maple leaf log cabin block. Unfortunately, I do not recall the designer’s name of this pattern. It is related to the wedding quilt I made for my husband’s sister. Now there is a whole story to go with this quilt but I will leave that for a Story Time Monday. This piece finished at 39″ square.
I also took 3 large quilts to be quilted on a long arm. Taking the larger quilts to a long arm is part of my plan to complete items. As you all know my word for the year is ‘complete’. These 3 quilts returned on Thursday so beautifully done. I must thank Michelle of Briarwood Sew & Quilt for the wonderful job she and her husband did. I love them. The binding has been added to two of them and just waiting for the hand stitching to be done. The third one is still waiting for it’s binding. They will definitely be done for the next UFO monthly report.
I also put a border on the test piece for my pattern Woven Stars and sandwiched it. I didn’t get it quilted so it is on the list for this month.
I think I did pretty good even though I didn’t quite make my goal of 4 this month I am still pleased with the fact that I now have 2 less on the list and several more almost to the point of being finished. It is a great feeling to actually finish these pieces that have been sitting around for so long.
How many UFO’s or WIP’s did you get done? Please leave a comment and let us know.
Until next month keep up the awesome work.
Happy Quilting!
Hey Jen,
I’m a firm believer in celebrating what you have accomplished rather than castigating yourself for what you haven’t finished, so congratulations for what you have completed.
Love that Maple Leaf Log Cabin.
Laura I agree it is best to celebrate what we have accomplished – makes us feel so much better and ready to conquer more.
Since I didn’t set a specific goal, it’s hard to judge how I did. I got three quilt tops quilted and bound from my cupboard. I have two t-shirt quilts on the long arm for a customer right now. They’re in memory of her parents who recently passed away and are the same size and layout so I loaded one right after the other. Sweet! I guess I’ll count those for February:0}. I’d give a list of other things in my life that get in the way, but that wouldn’t be an uplifting story. Way to go Jen. The pictures are awesome. Thanks for sharing.
That’s fantastic Maria. You are well on your way to a good February as well.
I am not a big fan of maple leafs but I love you quilt. I didn’t really finish any UFOs in January. I would have finished the table topper for my daughter but I ran into a snag with the binding, it looked awful on the quilt. Had to go purchase more fabric as I had nothing in stash. The new fabric looked good in store but was unsure when I got it home so I posted it on a site to get opinions. I have it half on now so I will count it for Feb. Main goal for February is to finish my husbands quilt before the heat hits us in Florida.
Thanks Debbie. That’s a shame that the binding fabric didn’t look good. I too have had that happen with binding and borders. Good luck with getting your husband’s quilt done before the heat hits. You can send some my to melt the mountains of snow we have.
I still have none finished; the To, From on the back of the quilt need to be finished. Two quilts to be sandwiched and pinned for quilting! I am released to do physical therapy with my foot now, yes! I will be getting around better very soon! Thank you Jen for your professional format & enthusiastic personality!
Mary glad to hear that you will be back on your feet soon. Good luck with the UFO’s
