little art quilt with embellishments

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.

Last week I added some decorative stitching to my little piece and if you missed the post then check it out August week 2 here.

Ruth has posted the rules for this week on her blog for us all to read. Check out August week 3 rules. Check out Ruth’s blog post for week 3 of Stitch Along Sunday. If you missed her post from last week you can check out Ruth’s little art quilt on the gallery page along with all the others.

The rule this week was to add some embellishment – something possibly that you have never done before.

I pulled out my embellishment box which I have to say is pretty sad – there isn’t much in it which made it a bit hard to pick something to embellish my piece with. I settled on a piece of rickrack and I had 3 colours to choose from – red, gold or yellow. I figured the red and gold would just get lost in the piece so I chose the bright yellow – definitely won’t get lost.

A little bit of colour added with the rickrack.

Then I thought what else can I add as it is looking pretty bare in the top right hand corner. I found some fabric satin flowers in 4 different colours and I figured why not. Once strategically placed I then set out to find a centre for each flower. I have a container of funky buttons and found these cool ones that complement the flowers well.

Then I added some more flowers as I felt the bottom was lacking something. A button in the centre of each flower finished it off.

Oh boy, what a piece – definitely abstract and definitely different. Embellishing done I guess all I can do now is wait until next week to see what’s next.

See you then.

Happy Quilting!
