Blocks sewn in a vertical row

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.

I can’t believe how fast the week flies by – it seems like I was just writing last weeks post and putting borders on half of the units for week 2.

This weeks rules can be found on Ruth’s blog at Rules – November Week 3. Also don’t forget to check out the November Gallery to see what everyone is up to.

This week we were to arrange the blocks with borders into a layout and then draw it out on graph paper. This would then allow us to figure out what other pieces we needed to cut of our background fabric and then sew everything together.

I positioned my pieces to the way I wanted them.

I drew their positions on the graph paper and filled in the rest of the background pieces adding in all the measurements as I went.

When I laid my pieces out on my black polka dotted fabric I was not happy with the results – they just seem to get lost in the background fabric.

I auditioned them on some green and was much happier with how they looked.

A third border was added to each square.

The layout I created ended up getting put to the side and I auditioned a couple more layouts.

And finally I decided that simple is sometimes better. Also faster and easier to do the math.

Final option

Just now wondering if I wouldn’t rather have it in a horizontal orientation. So many choices.

This is what I came up with for the Halloween fabrics and just wondering if I will put a border of the black polka dot around the whole piece and frame it. So many decisions.

Speaking of decisions I haven’t even made any for my set of Christmas blocks yet.

Happy Quilting
