Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.
Wow, it is Sunday again – where did the week go? If you missed last week you can catch up at November Week 1 and then I decided to do a second one this time and the fabrics can be seen at Idea Number 2. Like I didn’t have enough work to keep me busy I had to add a second project into the mix – I must be crazy.
This weeks rules can be found on Ruth’s blog under Rules – Week 2. Make sure to check out the November Gallery.
This week we are to make quarter square triangles but in order to make quarter square triangles one must first start with half square triangles. Need a refresher on HSTs then check out my tutorial on how to make half square triangles.
I made my half square triangles from the 3 ¼″ squares and 4 ¼″ squares with each set of fabrics. The Christmas fabric I ended up switching out one of the fabrics for a blue as I didn’t feel there was enough contrast with the two burgundy fabrics.

Then I added the 3″ and 4″ squares to the half square triangles to make the quarter square triangles. Here’s a tutorial on how to make quarter square triangles.
Fabric Set #1
Fabric Set #2
As per Ruth’s instructions I only squared off half of them. Two of the small ones to 2 ½″ and two of the large ones to 3 ½″. I used my square up ruler from Quilt In A Day – my favourite ruler for this job.
Adding Borders
Fabric Set # 1
The borders were added to the squared up quarter square triangles. The Halloween fabric I ended up adding in a purple piece as I wasn’t pleased with how the square looked on the pieces I had picked last week. There was no punch to it and the square just blended into the yellow and black fabrics. The yellow did get used on the outside of the purple. The fabric I picked for the border didn’t even get used. Maybe next week.
The small block is 4″ x 7″ and the large block is 5 ½″ x 9 ½″.
Fabric Set # 2
What was to be the background fabric has become the inside border fabric and cornerstones on these blocks. I found that the squares just blended into the busy border fabric and needed the lighter value blue to make everything pop.
The small block is 6 ½″ sq and the large block is 8″ square.
I am certainly looking forward to next week to see what comes next.
Happy Quilting!
So beautiful!!
