Hey Everyone, welcome back to Coffee Talk Saturday.
Well, February is over and I have to say most of it passed in a blur for me since I was sick. I do know that I didn’t quite make my goal for my UFO completion this month. I think I have a legitimate reason.
What did I do?
Well, I put the binding on two of the quilts that I had quilted by my long arm quilter, Michelle. These quilts were made with my Rectangle & Squares design but both look very different. That will be a story for a Monday though rather than today. Quilt #1 I am teaching as a class at The Academy of Quilting called Beginners Patchwork. The class starts March 14 and registration is now open.

Quilt #2
I also added the binding and hanging sleeves to the 96 inch square quilt I made years ago and finally had quilted in January. The binding just went on the other day so the quilt is sitting in the TV room waiting for me to do the hand sewing.
And alas the poor Woven Stars quilt (pictured at top) that was sandwiched and ready to quilt last month is still in the same state it was at the end of January. Here’s hoping for this month.
I have joined a couple of challenges to complete UFO’s. One is with a guild I belong and the list I made for them is quite lengthy with specific dates to finish – hopefully I can stay on track. I wish the projects that I had to finish were smaller. Small ones would go much faster than these larger pieces I need to finish.
The other challenge is with an on-line group at Joanie’s Trendy Quilts and is called the Bloom Project. We made a list of UFO’s we wanted to complete as well as projects we wanted to start which are called NFOs – New Finished Objects. Oh boy, I have quite the list.
So that’s it for last month and even though I didn’t meet my goal of finishing 4 I have still made progress in the UFO department and am looking forward to even more progress this month especially now that I am accountable to 2 challenge groups and feeling healthy again.
How did you do with your UFOs in February? Leave a comment and let us know.
Happy Quilting!
I too have spent February inside, recovering from a concussion. I got a lot accomplished, a quilt sample for the Round Bobbin Quilt Shop’s BOM program that I designed and made 2 versions of. 2 small quilts of my own design for a baby and toddler and a large simply pieced flannel and minkee quilt for my Grandson’s bed when he visits. I pieced and bound a client’s t-shirt quilt and quilted 2 others on my long arm. I pieced 2 placemats for my oldest 2 grandkids for Valentine’s day and made a Ladybug fabric skirt for my granddaughter in Hawaii!
Sorry to hear you had a concussion but you certainly did manage to accomplish a lot in February. Way to go Kim. Keep up the great work.
I spent much of February on vacation but the past 3 months have been great for finishing projects. I need to have 4 quilts ready for a guild meeting next week. Starting in November, I finished the blocks for one quilt, added a border to two quilts and then did the quilting for two quilts. I asked a friend to long-arm one quilt and then came back from vacation to start adding bindings and finishing embellishments. So far I’ve completed two quilts and need to finish sewing down the binding on the third quilt. I have a few embellishments to add to the fourth quilt. I just might get it all done for the meeting!
Setting interim deadlines for each step has really helped me whittle my way through this string of ‘get it done’ projects!
Wynn, that is super that you are going to make the deadline with these 4 quilts. Making interim deadlines is a great way to help finish up projects. I have been doing that as well.
