The Wave Edge ruler is from Matilda’s Own and I bought it way back when I was living in the Outback. It comes in two lengths – 16″ and 24″. I have the smaller one as they were sold out of the larger one.
The rulers have different sized waves on each side giving you an option of a large or small wave pattern. The wave is nice and gentle which makes cutting and tracing with this ruler easy.
It works great to trace lines for quilting motifs. The quilting I did on the border of Bargello Blues I used this ruler for the curved lines.
I think it would work great to cut a wavy edge on a quilt. This I have not tried but maybe I could for one of my Stitch Along Sunday art quilts.
Today I had the thought that it would work great for curved piecing. By cutting two pieces of fabric together it would make the piecing fairly straight forward. I’ll give it a try and let you know on a Technique Tuesday post – coming soon to a computer near you.
Happy Quilting!
I look forward to seeing your input on the curvy ruler on Technique Tuesday. I am currently in the market for something like that – scallop edges or curvy sewing. Just can’t decide which ruler would be best.
Thanks Susan. I look forward to hearing what you decide to do and seeing the finished product – I hope you’ll share it with us?
I made my own for quilting lines some time ago, out of MDF which a friend jigsaw cut for me then I sanded it and sealed it. It’s not very long though so I am going to look and see if there is one available a little closer than Australia. I wonder why we don’ t see more wavy lines, too easy perhaps? But so effective!
