Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.
If you missed Stitch Along Sunday – November Week 3 I had sewed together all the blocks I had added borders to on Week 2. Okay so I didn’t quite get all of my blocks sewn together – the Christmas ones are still sitting on the table waiting to be made into something.
This weeks rules can be found on Ruth’s blog at November Week 4 Rules. Don’t forget to check out the November Gallery while you are there getting the rules.
This week I finished the little piece with the Halloween fabrics. The rule was to quilt the piece using a motif from the fabrics. I chose to do meandering circles in green.
Remember the saying was something round, something green, something Halloween. I definitely have the round and the green as I used green thread for the quilting.
I almost sewed my thumb but luckily only stitched down my glove. That would have hurt if I had sewn through my thumb. I guess I had better pay a bit more attention as to where my thumb and needle are in relation to each other. I wouldn’t recommend doing this at home.
The other rule was that we had to use up the remaining four blocks and one had to be attached to the quilt somehow.
I squared off the remaining blocks to 2 ½″ and 3 ½″ then fused them to Timtex.
Once trimmed down I fused another piece of fabric to the back of each piece otherwise they would have been stark white.
To hold all the layers together I did a close zigzag stitch around the edge. The Timtex adds stiffness to the squares so I can hang them from the bottom of the quilt.
In order to hang them I added some ribbon to the back of the quilt before I attached the binding.
Binding on and an orange button sewn onto each square to hang off the ribbon the piece is complete.
Happy Quilting!
Loved what you did here Jennifer – not the bit about almost stitching your thumb! I actually did that once, went right through just to the side of my nail. Yep it hurt!
