Hey Everyone, welcome back to Inspirational Sunday.  Last week I talked about the bright, cheery sunflower field down the road and how it is the basis of my current art quilt which, by the way, is coming along very nicely.

This week I am going to travel back in time and visit the Australian Outback.

We spent almost 5 years living in the middle of nowhere surrounded by red dirt – not even really dirt, more like sand, a very fine sand that gets into everything.  Poor Soda’s nose had a permanent red mark across it.  Now, I have to tell you that this red, sienna, rust coloured dirt – pick whatever name you want to call it – has never been my favourite colour palette. In fact, it’s not a colour I have ever been drawn to or fond of so to see it day in and day out could get a bit tiring.

After several years of living in this environment I signed up for a workshop called Quilts On the Double by Judy Hooworth from Sydney.  I thought okay, I am going to step out of my comfort zone and use a different colour palette than I normally choose and I figured why not use desert colours for this workshop.

I went to my stash and started pulling out fabrics – I was quite surprised to find that I had several of these sienna and rust coloured fabrics.  I added some golds to the rusts and then threw in a purple for good measure. You see, I had another fabric in mind for the border that had all these colours in it.

Just a little snippet of the quilt for you to see – tune in tomorrow for Story Time Monday to learn more about this Outback quilt and see the whole thing.
