Hey Everyone, welcome back to UFO Spotlight Saturday.
So I should be working on my Bull’s Eye quilt as the deadline is soon approaching for the show but I became distracted by another UFO. These UFO’s are almost like something shiny that catches your eye and you forget what you were looking at before but in this case trying to finish.
The other problem is that I cleaned up the table by my ironing board and ended up finding all kinds of projects that I have been working on in the past few weeks and possibly months. Everything was just sort of stacked on the table in piles which was beginning to drive me crazy – I do not like clutter, at all.
So I sorted through it all and put everything into baskets. One to two projects per basket. Scary thing really as I do believe there are at least 10 unfinished projects in those four baskets. There are 6 baskets in all but one has pieces of batting and the other things like Aqua-Mesh, Texture Magic and my Supreme Slider – cool things to play with.
The moral of the story is one should never clean up the studio because you just never know what you are going to find and really what you don’t know doesn’t hurt you. So I should have just left things alone over in that corner and I would have been a little bit further along on my Bull’s Eye quilt.
But it does look nice and neat in the baskets, don’t you think?
What caught my eye?
Something bright and colourful of course! A Stitch Along piece from last fall done in gorgeous batiks. And as you know from Free Motion Friday I’ve already picked out the thread and quilting motif.
I made another 3 sections with no appliqué as of yet as I was trying to figure out how to put these pieces together to make one big piece rather than 4 placemats. At the time I started this project I was into placemats but not anymore – distraction is a wonderful thing.
Now I sit with them on the design wall thinking I can put squares down the centre. Thirteen divided by 3 ¼″ equals 4. Perfect I will put 4 squares in-between the pieces and then I’ll have a lovely square piece. Funny how I forgot that the length isn’t the same as the width and 3 ¼″ didn’t divide evenly.
It’s always the math that catches you up – just when you think you’ve got it all figured out the math comes back to nip you in the butt one more time.
Well, I didn’t really like the look of the squares so will go to plan B but at this point I don’t want to do the math for plan B and so the UFO will remain as is for now. I am going to put the stripes in the centre but a narrower version.
See I really just should have worked on the Bull’s Eye quilt – my mom always said work on one thing at once and get it done before moving onto the next.
Good advice, I should really listen to my mom next time or not clean up and become distracted by bright, colourful UFO’s.
Happy Quilting!
I love your focal fabric. That is gorgeous! Your placemats are going to turn into a beautiful wall hanging.
Thanks Carol. I wasn’t sure when I started out where it was going to head but I think it is going to work out well. I know I didn’t want to make placemats. I love the focal fabric too and unfortunately only have a yard in total so have to use it wisely.
Hilarious story. I can relate. Love the applique piece. I think the big quilt will turn out really well.
Thanks Rose-Marie. I’ll keep working on it between other UFO’s.
I do believe you did a super job on the placemats verses quilt. The winner is the QUILT!!!!!
Thanks Laura. Now just to get time to actually finish it.
