stacked snowmen wall hanging

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Story Time Monday.

I do love snowmen and have made a few snowmen quilts in the past. Not to mention all my snow people designs on my Santa Sacs.

With the snow we have had the last couple of days it does get one thinking of snowmen. Rolling the snow into balls, stacking the balls on top of one another and then decorating. A black top hat or maybe a colourful toque and matching scarf. Coal for the eyes and oh don’t forget the carrot for his nose.

This wall hanging with the three snowmen on top of one another is one of my favourites. I made it years ago when I was living in Yellowknife and had just started doing appliqué. The pattern is called Stack of Snowmen from The Rabbit Factory. It looks like the pattern is still available.

It is great how each snowman has it’s own personality with a different hat, scarf and nose. I personalized each one further with different buttons.

I used fusible web for the appliqué and machine blanket stitch to secure all the pieces down. It looks like I matched the thread to all of the appliqué pieces. Nowadays I probably would have used black thread for the stitching. I find that stitching all of the pieces in black highlights the appliqué very nicely and makes it stand out more.

The quilting was basic large stippling around the appliqué pieces and wavy lines in the border. The border fabric is one of my favourite Christmas fabrics and believe it or not I still have some of that fabric. In fact I am going to use it on a Santa Sac – it will make a wonderful tree.

How many snowmen quilts do you have?

Happy Quilting!
