Hey Everyone, welcome back to Quilts by Jen.
As everyone in Canada knows it is Canada’s Sesquicentennial year – 150th birthday this year. We have all been gearing up with special Canadian themed quilts, fabric lines and charity projects.
I have had the honour of designing a block for the shop in Shelburne, Ontario, Cobwebs & Caviar to take part in the Northcott 2017 Block Party. Northcott produced a special fabric line for Canada’s Sesquicentennial honouring Canada along with it’s symbols and history over the past 150 years.
Northcott’s fabric line has a wide variety of prints – some with maple leaves, others with writing – questions about Canada’s history and the answers too and one with newspapers from all over the country and some solids. The theme colour is of course red mixed with cream and other colours of green, blue and gold.
The complete Sesquicentennial fabric line is available for purchase on-line at Cobwebs & Caviar and also available in the shop.
In collaboration with AJ and Deb at Cobwebs & Caviar we came up with a block featuring an Inukshuk and the northern lights. This block is mainly applique with a pieced background. It is 12″ x 18″ finished. It can be used with other blocks in the block party to create a quilt or can made into a stand alone piece.
We are proud to be a part of Northcott’s block party and will have the pattern and kits available. Originally the start date was to be Tuesday January 24 but Northcott has had to defer the start date of the Trans-Canadian block party to Wednesday February 1. As of February 1 we will have the pattern and kits available in the shop. In order to receive the free pattern or purchase the kit you must go into the shop. Cobwebs & Caviar can be found in Shelburne, Ontario at 147 Main Street West.
Why not start collecting blocks for the block party today and make Cobwebs & Caviar your first stop on the road trip across Canada.
Happy Quilting!
Love your sesquicentennial design!
Thanks Dorothy, I love it too.
