Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.
I have finally returned to my studio and figured I had best get started on Stitch Along Sunday for July since the first Sunday has already gone by. I still need to finish up June’s stitch along piece since I didn’t take it to Saskatchewan with me.
The rules this week are very simple and the theme is Christmas in July. There are many places that celebrate Christmas in July and I know that a couple of my local quilt shops certainly do. I am looking forward to checking out their new fabrics for this Christmas season. You can find the complete rules on Ruth’s blog at Rules – July Week 1.
I decided not to go with the traditional Christmas colours or fabrics. I bought this piece of batik many years ago and have never had an opportunity to use it. Now is the time I have decided. I don’t think it is a Christmas fabric but with the gold stars and swirls on it I am saying that it is. Plus the streaks of blue look like icicles to me and Christmas is always in the winter where I live. This fabric also reminds me of the movie Frozen from Disney – amazing graphic designs in the movie that remind me so much of quilts.
Looking further into my stash I found a light teal blue that matches the stripes in the feature fabric almost perfectly. It is pictured in the photo at the top of the page. As well as a cream coloured batik with gold coloured circles.
Prior to even thinking about the fabrics I knew I would be using these 3 snowflakes I acquired many years ago. They have just been sitting and waiting for the right moment to be added to a quilt. They have so much texture to them.
Thread of course in bright colours of rayon and metallic.
And then to round out the piece some small crystal-like icicles in many colours.
Well, I wonder where all of this is going to lead me. I guess I will have to wait until next Sunday to find out.
Have you started your Christmas sewing yet? Why not join me in the July Stitch Along Sunday challenge and get ahead start on those Christmas projects.
Happy Quilting!
Just love this idea. Can’t wait until next Sunday. If I go out and buy these items do I wait to see what you do and then copy it? Don’t get the concept. Liz
Hi Liz, the idea of stitch along Sunday is to create your own little mini art quilt. Each week the rules will be posted on Ruth’s blog which I always link to in my posts. Her blog is: http://www.learntoapplique.com The rules are open to your own interpretation and creativity. From the rules each week we continue to build on what we did the previous week. There is not a lot of work to do each week which makes the project manageable and it is then finished at the end of the month. Ruth also has a gallery on her blog where she posts everyone’s work each week and the progress they are making. The idea is not to have to buy anything for these projects but if you do not have a stash you may have to. I hope that you will join us. Jen
