block made with triangles and squares

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

With autumn just around the corner I dug into my stash and looked for a leaf fabric. I honestly do not have that many so it didn’t take long to locate them all and decide which one I would feature in this block and quilt. I have had this one for quite sometime – seems to me that is the story about all my fabric.

It is one of my favourite leaf fabrics as I love the colours that are in it – rust/orange, purple and green with some yellow thrown in for good measure all on a cream background. Everything is very dainty in it and soft – a very peaceful fabric. I hope the quilt will be very peaceful and comfy as well.

I picked a block that would showcase the leaf fabric and came up with one that is a half square triangle where the leaf fabric will be one whole side of the half square triangle. The rest of the block is quite simple in that it is just squares and triangles. Just need to be careful working with these triangles as they are all cut on the bias and will stretch out of shape if I am not careful.

The block is called Ladder 4 in EQ but I think I will call the block Squares & Triangles instead. Then once it is all put together I will name the quilt.

Squares & Triangles Block

This is a 12 inch finished block. I have used 6 fabrics for this block – the leaf fabric for one side of the square, a rust/orange for around the 3 little golden yellow squares and purple for the corner.

Here are four of the blocks sitting together in a square. I did not sew them together yet as I am thinking about putting a green triangle where two of the purple triangles are and having two colours instead of one. I know what I am going to do to finish this piece so will keep you posted on how I am doing.
