Hey Everyone, welcome back to Coffee Talk Saturday.
Here it is Saturday again – wow! Where do the weeks go. In fact so many weeks have passed by that only 2 more blog posts and I will have completed half of the 365 day challenge.
So what to write about today. I was thinking maybe something about work flow. One day last week when Michael was reading his iPad and surfing the net which he does a lot of he came across this article about the work week and how we should rethink it. I read the article and thought yep I should give this a try so I did for one day. It worked very well for me that day but for some reason the next day I just slipped right back into my old ways.
Read all about it right here:
Why We Should Rethink the Eight-Hour Workday
Now I do have to say that breaking the day up into 90 minute work periods and 20 minute breaks is a good idea. The next question is do I continue working on the same thing or change subjects or projects all together for the next 90 minutes. The day I did work like this I focused on one project for the day and must say I was very productive with it.
In order to maintain the 90 minute work periods and 20 minute breaks I set it all up with an app on my phone called Focus Time. The alarm went when my work time was done and then again when the break was done and so on and so on.
Today I do not feel I have been very productive as I have been flitting back and forth between a couple of projects and do not feel like I have accomplished much with either – guess that answers my question. Stick with one project until it is as far as you can go at the time or it is done. My mom always says do one thing until it is compelted and then move onto the next.
I guess I should really listen to my mom and take her advice, after all moms know best.
Happy Quilting!
Very interesting, Debby Kratovil of Sewwequilt.com had a very interesting 2 part article on time & sugar, you might like to read that too. It apparently takes 10 days to break a habit, (or is it 30?!) anyway I think that is why you couldn’t do it again the next day. 90 minutes sounds good because sometimes I flog on and on at something and basically just get slower and tired, which is counter-productive. Love the post, Jen – will now read the link, thanks.
Thanks Juliet. Have been using the 90 minute intervals today and it has worked well. Will try and keep it up and see if I can change my habits in 10 – 30 days. I’ll check out the article you noted in your comment. Thanks
