Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.
Last week I highlighted what I did with my fabrics in the first workshop with Pat Pauly, Cutting Up the Pretties. It was a lot of fun and it was great to do some improv design and be creative in a way I hadn’t been before. I definitely learned useful techniques and ideas for future projects and for finishing this project. If you missed last week’s post make sure to check it out – Playing With Fabrics – Part 1.
Now onto the next class.
Class #2 – Slash and Burn
This class I was very excited about taking as I had no idea what we were going to be doing with these huge strip sets that we made prior to class. Okay I made mine a bit larger than she asked for – in fact double the size. I had cut 5 strips from each of the 5 fabrics and well I wasn’t going to waste them when I realized that I had double what I needed.
The result is that I get to work really big. Thank goodness I had lots of design wall space. I was in envy of the design wall that Marilyn has in her studio and her studio which holds 12 people comfortably – what a space and perfect for classes.
The strip sets.
I even added a piece in like a window on this one – a bit hard to see but the window piece is on the diagonal and is skinny.
The strip sets cut up and re-sewn together in odd shapes with curved piecing, shifting and diagonal lines.
Adding in a background fabric that contrasts big time.
Playing some more.
What I left the class with.
So now I have to wait until winter to work on this some more or at least November when CreativFest is done and dusted. I am too busy creating new designs and patterns for the big show Oct 24-25 at the Metro Toronto Centre.
I’ll keep you posted on the progress once I am back with this little project – little I don’t think so – it is going to be a good sized piece. I told Michael we needed a new house with big high ceilings to display my pieces – that didn’t go over so well.
This class is definitely a stash buster but you do end up with a few pieces for the scrap bins as well.
Happy Quilting!
Way to go Jen!
