Hey Everyone, welcome back to Story Time Monday.
One day I decided to play with some Timtex that I had left over from some other project and make a Christmas wall hanging. I wanted it to be quite different and set to work creating a Santa hat.
Once the hat was drawn I traced it out on a stiff board to use as a template to cut around on the Timtex. The piece is a good 18 inches long and 12 inches high.
To attach the fabric to the Timtex I used fusible web and appliquéd the fabric to the Timtex cut out. It went on very smoothly but if I was to make the piece again I would use Timtex with the fusible already attached. The Timtex is stiff enough to give the wall hanging enough substance to hang evenly and smoothly.
The hat itself looked kind of plain so I attached a HOHOHO and placed it so that the hat showed through in places.
All the stitching was done with a very close satin stitch using shiny rayon threads. The pompom at the end of the hat is a stuffed yo-yo.
The fabrics for this piece are all Laurel Burch just as they were for the bright and cheery tree skirt I made for my niece.
A fun and easy Christmas wall hanging to brighten my entry way. To hang it I attached a piece of ribbon to the back.
Happy Quilting!
Very cute! I love to get new ideas for using materials. I have seen Timtex used for handbags but this idea is great too. Thanks.
Thanks Linda. It was lots of fun to design and create.
Love the Santa Hat
Thanks Kathleen, it is lots of fun.
Jen, the Santa hat is adorable. I may make it for my Guild Christmas exchange gift when the theme is Santa. Thanks so much. Mary
