Last summer I had the pleasure of creating a quilt for a friend depicting her life on the road. Travelling and living in a rolling home is certainly a lifestyle – one that our friend loves – enjoyed by many whether it is part-time or full-time.
We had once chatted about what she would want on a quilt – mountains, trees, water and of course her Airstream. When it came time to design her quilt, I figured it should show her rolling down the road.
This quilt was so much fun to design and sew together. At first it began as just a sketch on paper while the colours were only in my head. Picking the fabrics is one of my favourite steps of designing a quilt and then seeing how it grows as row after row is sewn together. When the quilt is finally complete, showing the full design in colour, all the effort is worth it.
The final stage of the design process was to choose a quilting pattern that would give depth and movement to the design. The final quilting was performed by a friend with a long-arm quilting machine.
The quilt is 60″ x 63″.
Happy Quilting!
