free motion leaf motif

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Free Motion Friday.

Leaves come in so many different shapes and sizes. These free motion ones are easy as and make a great all over edge to edge quilting design.

Once again I have added meandering or stippling between the leaves to connect the dots or better yet leaves.

Start out by making a single stitch line which will be the stem and middle vein.

Stitch a single line

At the bottom of the stitch line return part way up putting a curve into the line being stitched – this is one side of the leaf.

Stop on the single line part way up and return down to the bottom putting a curve in this line as well to make the other side of the leaf.

I have used the motif here on this log cabin leaf quilt in a variegated thread by King Tut. Now all I have to do is add borders and the quilt will be done – yes it is on the UFO list.
