Hey Everyone, welcome back to Inspirational Sunday. This week I am going to take you to Ecuador.  Michael and I spent a month in Ecuador a few years ago touring around and seeing gorgeous scenery wherever we went.  What an amazing country full of culture, geography and bright colours.

I was enthralled with the colour that was everywhere – in the streets, on the buildings, in the gardens and most of all the clothing people were wearing.  One of the most colourful places we visited was the outdoor market in Otovello, a couple hours north of Quito.  I was totally overwhelmed with all the textiles and beads – every colour under the sun.

I did manage to purchase a couple of very colourful items.

As we were wondering around Cuenca, one of the smaller cities in Ecuador and definitely my favourite we came across a footpath or sidewalk as North Americans call it.  This footpath was made of concrete with tile inlays.  I was quite taken with the inlayed pattern of this one and thought wouldn’t that make a great quilt design.  (I had my personal photographer take a photo for me.)

A very interesting and detailed design in the inlayed tiles on this footpath.

Now I would definitely add some colour – who am I kidding? lots of colour – to this design seeing how Ecuador is full of colour.  In order for this pattern to work as a quilt it needs the colour to create depth and contrast to accentuate all of the different designs in it.

As well, I do believe I would put the design on point and add into the corners more of the tile design.  So it is all planned in my head, now just to make it.

One day down the road this quilt just might be featured on Story Time Monday.

Happy Quilting!
