Hey Everyone, welcome back to Colourful Friday.
I’ve been a bit busy the last couple of days having fun. On Wednesday I did some sewing with 3 other ladies who asked me to join their kindred group. We had a great time – some sewing, much talking and lots of laughing. We all need those kinds of days in our lives.
Thursday I had a lunch meeting and then I headed to Coldwater to pick up a couple of parcels at the post office. While there I figured I would stop in and say hi to whomever was at The Purple Sock. The Purple Sock is a place of fun, socializing and of course knitting.
Well, the knit-a-long was just getting underway for the second week and I had considered doing it when the notice came out but then said no I was too busy and didn’t sign up. Today they talked me into staying and joining the knit-a-long. I have to admit it really didn’t take much to twist my rubber arm.
The next thing I new I had picked out this absolutely gorgeous blue/green yarn to make an asymmetrical poncho. I had a wonderful poncho when I was a kid that my grandma had made me. It was red, white and blue and I loved it. They went out of style for a very long time but they do seem to be making a come back in the fashion world.
I didn’t have any needles with me but no problem I was in a knitting shop with a very good supply of them.
The yarn is Tangier from Cascade Yarns and is made up of silk, acrylic, rayon and cotton. The colour is just scrumptious – so bright and fresh. I love how the blue and green mingles together and creates the colours of a Caribbean sea.
The pattern for the knit-a-long is the Tangier Asymmetrical Poncho designed by Helen Firing for Estelle Yarns. It is a free download on the Estelle website.
It didn’t take long to get going and with the first 8 rows done it is now repeat rows 7 & 8 for 34 repeats. The poncho grows by 8 stitches with every other row which means it takes no time at all to knit a row in the beginning but as the rows get longer it takes longer.
Here’s a close up of the knitting.
Now all I want to do is knit but there is work to do in the studio so I had best get back at it. The Coldwater Studio is going to be here before I know it.
Happy Quilting!
