Hey Everyone, welcome back to Snapshot/Coffee Talk Saturday.
Michael is an avid skier and teaches cross country skiing to school groups at Hardwood Ski and Bike which is just around the corner from our place. He has been trying to get me out on my skis for the last 2 winters and I never went at all.
Yesterday I decided was the day and I dusted off my 31 year old skis and took them for a little tour. The weather was perfect except for the lack of sun but it was only -3 and no wind. The last time I went cross country skiing was in Yellowknife and it was -32. I was covered from head to toe and only my eyes could be seen. By the time I was done my whole head looked like a little frost ball.
Today was the opposite. I had my jacket open, the pit zips undone, one layer of mitts in my pocket and I would have taken my toque off but I had no where to put it. I was a bit warm. I looked a tad bit out of place as I didn’t have on all the fancy ski clothing and my skis well they are wooden – yep wooden. My dad bought them for me when I was 16 – sentimental value and besides they still glide just fine.
The Meadowlands at Hardwood is a nice flat area with trails that wind their way through the forest. Very pretty and peaceful indeed. The rest of the ski trails are hilly and not my thing so now that they opened up this area again I am sure I will take the skis out a bit more often.
I did stop to take a couple of pictures along the way. I only had my iPhone so the pictures are not quite as good as they would have been if I had lugged the camera around with me. That’s okay as they still convey how peaceful and beautiful the place is all covered in white.

These pics were all taken in colour but here they appear to be in black and white. I did nothing to them it was just a very grey day but still very beautiful.
Definitely a winter wonderland.
Have a great day and
Happy Quilting!
Hi Jen,
I live on Maui so we don’t get the snow or even a typical winter (not that I am complaining). I really enjoyed your winter photos and wanted to tell you. I especially liked the last one where you are looking back at your ski trail. What a beautiful scene! I could see that photo with a poem, maybe like the famous one by Robert Frost. Thanks for bringing winter to Maui.
Linda, so glad you enjoyed my winter wonderland. When I am tired of winter I’ll come and visit you in Maui – I love heat and sunshine.
