Hey Everyone, welcome back to Story Time Monday on Sunday.
Once again I am switching up Sunday and Monday. Stitch Along Sunday will be tomorrow as I just haven’t quite figured out what to do for this week. Hopefully by tomorrow it will have all come together.
I belong to a fibre arts group called Marmalade – we are a group of 12 with varying mixed media and textile interests. A couple of our group met a group from Alberta and it was decided that the two groups would exchange Christmas postcards.
This is my card that went to Alberta. It is 4 x 6 in size, felted onto Timtex and embellished with ribbons, buttons and thread.
I started by cutting out the outline of the snowman in the blue felt which was a bit larger than 4 x 6 as the felt shrinks as it is felted. I placed it where I wanted and then echoed the outline of the snowman to do the felting.
The hat was also felted in place and the band was sewn with a satin stitch as were the twigs for his arms.
The stars in the sky are the same as the meandering free motion stars I highlighted on Free Motion Friday a few weeks ago just without the stitching to join them together as a continuous line motif.
All the embellishments were added prior to adding the backing – this way all of the stitching would be hidden.
On the back we wrote a little bit about ourselves so the recipient could get to know us.
I haven’t received my exchange postcard yet. I will next week when we get together for our Christmas lunch. I am looking forward to receiving my card and seeing all of the other ones.
Happy Quilting!
Very cute and a lovely keepsake!
