Hey Everyone, welcome back to Quilts by Jen.
A few months ago I was approached by Cynthia and Shannon who own Country Concessions Quilt Shop in Cookstown, Ontario to design their row for this year’s Row by Row Experience.
This year’s theme is home sweet home and so the ladies wanted to depict the quilt shop which is home away from home for many quilters. I certainly feel at home when I am there with all the wonderful fabrics, notions and friendly staff who make you feel welcome as soon as you step through the doors.
Cynthia sent me a few pictures of the shop which by the way is an old historic train station with wonderful flower gardens out front. The bell tower and flowers needed to feature prominently in the design. Photo at top of page.
I went home and put my creative juices to work and came up with a working sketch of the row. It was approved on the first draft – yahoo!
With the stamp of approval on the design it was time to pick out the fabrics. After spending a couple of hours looking at the fabrics on all the shelves in the shop – and let me tell you there are a few shelves and many, many bolts of fabric, the 3 of us finally had them nailed down.
Home I went and made the row. I call it Welcome. It can be part of a row by row quilt or stand on it’s own.
I had a lot of fun making this piece and I hope that you will to. Get your instructions and kit at Country Concessions in Cookstown. Available now.
Thanks Shannon and Cynthia for giving me the opportunity to design your row this year.
Happy Quilting!
Well done Jen. Love your interpretation of the actual shop. Makes me want to visit it!
Thanks Mary. It is a wonderful shop.
Would love to learn the beautiful Bargelo quilt. How do I get the pattern.
Judith, I have a pattern for several flower bargello patterns on my website and other great Bargello patterns can be purchased from Arbee Designs – she has everything from beginner to advanced. Happy Quilting Jen
