Hey Everyone, welcome back to Cool Tool Thursday.
Are you tired of burning your fingers when you have to do fiddly work with the iron? I certainly am and one day a student in one of my classes had this neat little tool that extended her finger and prevented it from being burnt while ironing.
This neat little gadget is called the Trolley Needle Thread Controller from Yarn Works, Inc. in Sharon, Wisconsin. It just slips over the end of your index finger.
I gave it a try while pressing a seam open and it worked like a charm – no heat from the iron touched my fingers at all.
It also works great if you need to fold over an edge of the fabric a ¼″ or more.
Some other uses include helping to apply small objects to projects such as sequins, position materials for glueing, help to feed fabrics through the sewing machine and controlling threads of course as the name implies.
So no burnt fingers from hot fabric or steam escaping from the iron with this handy dandy little finger extender.
Happy Quilting!

This would be great. I put the sewing machine needle through my finger and this would make sure my finger stays away from the needle if I need to fix the thread
Mary, it will do that job very well and no more pricked fingers.
My question is does the metal get hot from the iron?
I didn’t find that the metal got hot as it was far enough away from the iron as you moved it down the seam.
cool tool! never heard of it before. thanks for sharing.
Your welcome.
This looks very handy!
Yes, Jean it is.
I was given one of these needle thread controllers years ago by a needlepoint designer to keep hand embroidery threads from tangling whilst stitching on canvas. Now you have give me some multi-task methods for this tool. Many thanks Jen
