Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.
Here we are back at Sunday again and the next installment of Stitch Along Sunday. This week the rules are a bit more extensive and can be found on Ruth’s blog – Rules Week 3.
If you missed what I did last week then check it out at March Week 2. As well everyone who is participating their progress can be seen on the March Gallery.
This week we had to cut up those lovely pieces we sewed together last week into squares and rectangles depending on the size being made. I decided to keep mine the same size as the last two months, 12 x 9 inches.
Here are my squares and rectangles all ready to go.
Now the 2 larger squares from each fabric set have been cut on the diagonal once to create triangles. This means now I am working with bias edges and will have to be careful not to stretch anything out of shape.
The four small squares have been sewn together to create a 4 patch block.
The small triangles have been added to the 4 patch block to create a square in a square block. This piece is to measure 6 ½″ square. I trimmed off the dog ears to make the edges even.
The large triangles are added to the square in a square block to make a larger square in a square block which looks like the Snail’s Trail block. This piece measures 9″ square.
My fabrics do not have enough contrast in them to create the definition between the pieces to actually see how the snail’s trail curls around the centre pieces. I may have to give this another try.
Finally the 2 rectangles are added to the sides of the piece to create a 12 x 9 inch piece.
I wonder what we will be doing next week.
Don’t forget to check out the March Gallery to see what everyone’s pieces look like. I am sure they will all be very different.
Happy Quilting!
Isn’t it funny (peculiar) at first as the block started I didn’t like it but at the end I did! This is because of the colours? I will have to go and get my colour and try and work it out.
I agree Juliet because I was the same way but now quite like it. It is different.
This is just the sort of block I’ve been looking for…I have several Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler scrap bags that will be perfect for this project! Thanks for this great idea! Nice blog too. I will be following!
That’s great Michelle that this block is inspiration for you. Have fun with your fabrics. Happy Quilting Jen
