Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.
First of all I need to apologize to all who were expecting the last instalment in my Spring Fling quilt. I am afraid that it has been a big week and a big day so I promise I will have the last instalment next week.
This week I have made a simple double pinwheel block using quarter square triangles with 2 fabrics.
These directions are for a 10″ block.
Pick two fabrics – they can be of the same colour family as mine are or complementary colours or a colour paired with black or white. To mix it up even more you could use 3 or 4 different fabrics.
Cutting Instructions
From each fabric cut 2 – 7 ½″ squares.
Half Square Triangles
Make 4 half square triangles as per your favourite method. If you need a refresher then check out the instructions in my blog post on how to make half square triangles.
Square off to 6 ½″ inches. I use the Quilt in a Day Square Up Ruler. It works perfect every time and makes quick work of squaring up. To see it in action check out my post on squaring up half square and quarter square triangles. Press the seams towards the darkest fabric.
Quarter Square Triangles
Using the 4 half square triangles make 4 quarter square triangles. Check out my post for instructions on how to make quarter square triangles.
Square off to 5 ½″ inches. Press the seams in either direction.
Putting the Block Together
Lay out the quarter square triangles as per picture above.
Sew the quarter square triangles together making 2 pairs. Press the seams in the opposite direction on each.
Sew the two pairs together to create the block. Press the seam in either direction.
Another easy block that will use up the stash quickly and create a stunning quilt in any colour scheme. This blocks also gives the illusion of a square within a square.
Happy Quilting!
