A New Look For Purely Canadian

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

Today is Purely Canadian BOM day at Simcoe Sew & Quilt in Barrie. This month marks number 7 and we are nearing the end. Today the blocks are the Delectable Mountains Border that I highlighted last week and the Maple Leaf cornerstones in the border.

Last fall when I started this new Purely Canadian quilt with completely different fabrics than the original quilt I hadn’t even thought about Stash Blasting Wednesday let alone blogging everyday of the year. Yesterday I thought wow this is a perfect example of using up my stash for Stash Blasting Wednesday.

I started with the feature fabric of leaves in gold, brown, green, blue and cream. This fabric had originally been bought to create a hand sewn quilt using a pattern from the book Quiltmaking by Hand by Jinny Beyer. Well, that didn’t go very well and I doubt it would have stayed together as my stitches were not very even. Needless to say it went along the wayside a very long time ago and the fabric was relegated to the stash.

I was able to pull the dark brown, blue, green and both creams along with the leaf fabric from my stash. The rusty brown for the sashing and mountains I had to purchase. Pretty good though as I figure with the top fabrics and backing I will have used several metres from my stash – close to ten to be a little more accurate. Woohoo!

Want to see a few of the blocks? Okay just a few.
