Hey Everyone, welcome back to Inspirational Sunday. This week I have been working on a piece that will be in a gallery showing at the end of March here in Oro-Medonte. I hummed and hawed about whether to do realistic pieces or abstract art pieces and decided I would go with the realistic. Then I had to decide what it was I wanted to showcase as the pieces will be hung together and need to compliment each other. Since I love flowers I figured why not do a show of flowers.
I decided to start with a sunflower. I love these flowers, how they are always turning their faces into the sun and soaking up the heat. I am always amazed at how tall they grow – taller than me but then that really doesn’t take much since I got the short end of the stick. My twin brother stole all of the height but I am older.
There was a field of sunflowers not far from where we live this summer – it was absolutely spectacular especially on a clear blue day. The brightness of the yellow petals and deep green leaves against the rich blue background of the sky made for a stunning display of colour and great photo opportunities. The photo at the top of the page is of this field which was taken by my father-in-law.
So the first of the flower series is born. What other flowers have I chosen – well you will just have to wait for another Sunday to find out.
Oh, you want to see the quilt – okay here is a sneak preview – remember it is not finished. Just a little something to tease you with. Stay tuned as I am sure one day the sunflower will make it to Story Time Monday.
Happy Quilting!
Beautiful! Are all those little pieces fused or appliqued on? Love the shading. My favorite flower? I have two; pink roses and white tulips. Oh, who am I kidding? It almost all of them! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Cindy. It is all appliqué using fusible web. I love all flowers as well – hard to pick an absolute favourite.
