A modern quilt with the modern fabric line called Simple Marks

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

I had many ideas for today’s post and then I tossed each one aside saying nope not today. I wanted to do a block but just wasn’t sure which block to highlight in today’s post. Something easy was my criteria and so I started browsing through the EQ block library where there are literally 100’s of blocks to choose from.

I kept looking and looking – didn’t want anything with half square triangles as I am kind of tired of them and thought I just want something simple. Finally near the end of the block list I found this one called Up and Down – a very quick and easy block to put together.

Next came the fabric selection and as a lot of you know I have a bit of fabric to choose from. I pulled out several pieces and just wasn’t 100% happy with what I had on the table. Then I looked down at the bottom shelf in the one cupboard and remembered this really cool fabric from Moda that I had bought at Thimbles & Things way back in January. Perfect I said to the Soda this will be perfect.

The fabric line is called Simple Marks by Malka Dubrawsky for Moda and has 6 prints and one solid. Kind of modern looking but also kind of ancient looking – a mix of both. Perfect for this block and the effect that I want.

The block size is nine inches that I have decided to use and probably should have gone with a 12 inch for what I want to do but oh well the pieces are cut and sewn.

The Block

This block can be made with a variety of fabrics or with just 2 fabrics – one for the sashing and one for the feature fabric.

So I made 3 blocks and here they are – 2 prints per block – love the look so far. Now back to the sewing machine to make more. The 3 blocks together measure 27 ½″ x 9 ½″.

So simple and easy – definitely a quilt that can be made in a day and I don’t say that about many quilts. Depending on the size a good stash blaster as well – hoping to use up 8 metres of fabric with this one – woohoo!

Happy Quilting!
