Fire and Ice

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Story Time Monday.

Last week I took a road trip to Bancroft which is 180 km northeast of where I live on the way to Ottawa. I have travelled this road while going to Ottawa and always stop at the Tim Horton’s just as you drive into town. I arranged to meet up with my hostess Mary at Tim’s by the big rock.

I arrived early and had a cup of tea while reading my book. The prearranged time to meet was 4:30. Well, 4:30 came and went. I thought that is odd that she isn’t here. I went back into Tim’s and asked if there was another Tim’s in town. There definitely was another one.

We did finally meet up and the rock I thought was by the new Tim’s was nothing like the rock face that was by the old Tim’s. Very impressive. Who knew that a town of 3500 people would have 2 Tim’s. My home town of 10,000 only has one.

Despite getting off to a bit of a rocky start the rest of the week went without a hitch. Mary, my host and her husband live off the grid and they have a wonderful spot in the woods. Check out their blog about living off the grid.

I spoke at the North Hastings Quilting Club on the Wednesday evening and then ran a workshop on the Twisted Log Cabin by Lessa Siegele the next 2 days. Some of the ladies had paper pieced before and some had not, some loved paper piecing and some did not. It was a great two days of learning, creating and having lots of fun.

Many of the ladies finished the paper piecing part and then had fun making the decision of which layout or configuration of the twisted log cabin to use. A tough decision for some. The log cabins can be made with all the same template or use both the left and right templates. The results are very different with each giving spectacular designs.

Here are a few of their creations. The first three use all the same template while the last 2 use both the left and right templates.

Aren’t their creations just wonderful? So many colours and looks. It was a great class, thanks ladies.

Happy Quilting!
