Stitch Along Sunday - May 2015 Week 2

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.

Not much time between my Stitch Along posts this week but that’s a good thing because it means that I am caught up and back on track.

I ended off week one trying to decide what dark fabric to put with the bright background – and bright it is.

I auditioned 4 different pieces. Two blues – one with lines and the other with dots, black with some grey dots and black with bright dots. I seem to have a dot theme going here.

Well, I chose the blue with the lines – no dots this week. I thought the dots were just too much with the background fabrics.

Now onto the rules for week 2. You can find them on Ruth’s Blog – Week 2 Rules along with the PDF of the shape to download.

I downloaded the shape and then drew it out on my fusible.

The shape

When it was cut out I actually had 2 different shapes – negative and positive shapes.

I really didn’t like the look of either the positive or negative shape in the dark blue. I felt that the blue just didn’t stand out enough on the bright background.

So I tried a light coloured fabric – cream with dots – so much for no dots this week. And I am still not real thrilled with it either.

I cut out the little flower section and placed the blue on top of the cream. It’s looking better. The cream provides enough light to bring out the blue on the background.

I wanted to use the whole shape but ended up using just some pieces.

Here is the flower on an arch.

Then I thought just one flower looked funny so I made two more.

And with the arch coming out from behind three rock formations – all with beautiful rim lighting.

I’m happy with this configuration – very different from what it was suppose to be. As Ruth says each of these little Stitch Alongs are an exercise in creativity – some turn out better than others.

Hopefully it will work with next weeks rules. I guess I’ll soon find out.

Happy Quilting!
