Darkness into Light

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday on Monday.

I decided that I had best get this little piece finished seeing how the first Sunday in March is fast approaching and Ruth will have something new for us to start. And besides I just cannot have another UFO especially when I am making headway with the ones I already have.

This last week of February’s challenge is to add some quilting and finish off the piece however you wish. View the complete rules on Ruth’s blog – February Week 4 Rules.

I have decided to call this little piece, Floating in Space – it reminds me of the great frontier of space while the satellites float about or maybe the triangles are the Milky Way stretching across space.

Because I added the triangle shapes to the piece I decided to quilt the piece with my free motion triangle motif. This motif was perfect for the background which I stitched with a variegated black and grey thread from King Tut.

For the binding I used the black fabric to frame the piece and tie the corners together. I didn’t put a hanging sleeve on as I am not sure what I will be doing with the pieces at the end of the year and I can add one then if one is needed. The finished size of the piece is 9 x 12 inches.

Another month gone by and another challenge completed. I am not 100% happy with this piece and I think it is because it has no colour in it. It is not very often I work in an achromatic scheme and I guess there is a reason – I like colour. The great thing about these challenges is that I get to experiment and see what I like or do not like, will maybe do again or never do again. The fun of learning and being challenged is trying something different and new.

To see everyone’s completed piece check out the February Gallery on Ruth’s blog.

I wonder what Ruth has planned for next month?

Will you be joining us?

Happy Quilting!
