From light to dark

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.

Due to being ill I am a bit behind with February’s challenge but I am hoping to be all caught up for week 4 this weekend. Can you believe that this Sunday will be the 4th one in February. I have obviously done a lot of sleeping and missed a few days this month.

Week 2 was to create a background for the piece. Remember the theme is “Darkness into light” so I decided to have a light centre and work out to black edges.

I wanted a diamond in the middle which meant that I had to paper piece the background. This was very straight forward paper piecing seeing how all the pieces except the centre and corners were rectangles and easy to cut the pieces for.

The light fabric in the centre didn’t photograph as well as I had hoped and is actually white with some grey swirls on it. It is not near as bright as what is portrayed in the photo.

The piece all sewn together and the pattern drawn on graph paper.

The piece all ready for squaring off. I used my favourite paper piecing ruler the add-a-quarter ruler for this.

The piece with the paper removed and ready for the appliqué required for week 3. It is going to have to wait though as I need my beauty sleep.

The piece is 9″ x 12″. The piece reminds me of a diamond shaped log cabin. I wonder what it would look like with all four sides different colours? Maybe one of these Wednesday I’ll have to see.

Make sure to check out the February Gallery on Ruth’s blog to see what everyone else has come up with.

Happy Quilting!
