multi fabric colourful tag

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stitch Along Sunday.

Last week I didn’t quite get my piece made for week 4 so here it is today on week 5.  Week 4 rules can be found on Ruth’s blog – December Week 4 Rules. Make sure to check out the December Gallery to see what everyone else has been up to.

The rule was to create a tag about something that you are looking forward to in 2014 or something you are going to do like a vacation. I am going on vacation so I decided to create my tag for that.

I am very lucky to be going back to Ecuador the land of vibrant colour and wonderful textiles and fibre. I will be heading off to Otavello which has the largest market in all of Ecuador. It is amazing and the colour is overwhelming. I can’t wait to go and feast my eyes on it.

I grabbed some fabrics from the drawer – all metallic ones. Also a piece of batting and backing. Each piece of fabric was cut into a strip approximately an inch in width and 4 inches in length.

I figured I would just do this one quilt as you go or stitch and flip – nice and quick and the piece is almost finished when the sewing is done.

Once the pieces and layers were all stitched together I used the tag template from week 1 to cut the shape of my tag.

I cut my piece from the back side as the backing piece was shorter than the front and I wanted to make sure to stay on the backing.

Well I made it a bit longer as I didn’t want to lose any of these wonderful fabrics and colours. There was no rhyme or reason as to how the colours went – just nice and bright.

To finish the edge I used a zigzag stitch.

I didn’t quite like the look of the zigzag so I couched on a piece of yarn which also became the hangar for the tag.

I am going to use this on my luggage when I go to Ecuador so that I can identify it as it comes around the luggage carousel. I could also put a piece of plastic on the back of it to create a sleeve for my identification info.

A button hole at the pointed end of the tag to attach one of the plastic luggage tag lanyards to the piece would be a good ideas as well. This would make it much easier to attach the tag to the luggage and know that it will still be attached when it reaches the destination.

Week 5 was to put all of the tags from this month together on a background. I have decided that I am going to leave mine all separate seeing how they all stand alone quite well.

See you next year for a new round of Stitch Along Sunday.

Happy Quilting!
