Spring Fling Shuffle the Deck Quilt Top

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

Here it is, what you have all been waiting for – the final part of Spring Fling.

I must say that I had a great time making this quilt and yes it will be turned into a pattern. I especially love the freshness of it and the crisp clean colours.

I didn’t want the quilt to be too large so I only put 6 of the shuffle block blocks into this quilt. I have 5 leftover to make another quilt plus plenty of fat eighths leftover as well. This is certainly a design that lends itself to multi sizes.

Back in Spring Fling Part 3 I had made 2 rows – one with the shuffle block and the skinny row for in-between the shuffle block rows. When I was putting the quilt together last week I decided that the rows were too short and so added more to them. Now they look like this. The pieces range from 3 ½″ x 3 ½″ to 3 ½″ x 7 ¼″ in the skinny row and 3 ½″ x 7 ¼″ and 5 ½″ x 7 ¼″ in the shuffle block row.

Extra squares/rectangles added to the ends of each row

As I continued designing I thought well I don’t want the shuffle block to be all in a row down the middle of the quilt and decided that I would mix up the centre a bit and put 2 in a row and make 2 of those rows.  The skinny row between would be different from the other two as well. The shuffle block rows are 10 ½″ x 43″ which includes the sashing. The skinny row is 3 ½″ x 43″.

The white sashing with the multi-coloured specs provides a great frame for all of the squares and rectangles.

If you missed the first three parts of Spring Fling never fear they are right here:  Spring Fling Shuffle BlockSpring Fling Shuffle Block – Part 2 and Spring Fling Shuffle Block – Part 3.

This pattern is a great way to use up some fat quarters or skinny quarters or fat eighths as I had and still have. Watch the website for the pattern as it will be coming soon, or, even better, contact me and pre-order the pattern so you get it as soon as it is published!

Now I am debating about whether to put a skinny row at the beginning and end of the quilt. I certainly have enough fabric! At present the quilt is 43″ x 50″ . What do you think?
