Spring Fling Stack-n-Whack - Part 3

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

The second last instalment of Spring Fling. To start from the beginning, here is Spring Fling Part 1 and Spring Fling Part 2.

Last week I went shopping – yes I know I am supposed to be blasting my way through my stash rather than adding to it but I didn’t have an appropriate fabric for the sashing. I found the perfect one at Thimbles & Things in Orillia.

As you have probably guessed this week I am adding sashing and some spacer rows as I still have 29 of those fat eighths to use up. They need to be used up as they have been hanging around too long and are just taking up far too much real estate in the drawer.

For the sashing I have decided to use a white with multi-coloured confetti on it. The sashing will be 1 ½″ finished so you will have to cut the strips at 2 inches. They will go all the way around each block like this. The block measures 7 ¼″ x 17 ½″ without the sashing and 10 ¼″ x 20 ½″ with sashing.

Seeing how I have an odd number of blocks I will add in some random pieces to the rows with the blocks. These pieces are 5 ½″ x 7 ¼″ unfinished. The piece in the picture below measures 10 ¼″ x 33 ½″.

The spacer rows I have made a little over half the width of the block at 3 ½″ wide. They will have sashing between each piece to give a more modern look to the piece. These two sections together are 13 ½″ x 33 ½″.

All the rows will be made as long vertical rows and then they will be pieced together to create the quilt top.

Tune in next week for the unveiling of the top. I might even have enough fabric to make two tops!

Happy Quilting!
