on point coloured hatchet blocks

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

I decided to go with the vertical orientation of the blocks which means that the piece would be sewn together on point. I also went with a long table runner using 15 of the squares I made last week.

This in turn means that I would need some setting triangles to finish of the edges with. I cut black squares at 5 ½″ and then cut them on the diagonal once to fit into the triangular space along the edge between the squares.

They needed to be cut larger than the 5 inch block so that they would over hang the block edge to create a seam allowance on the edges so that the points would not be lost on the coloured sections of the blocks.

The rows have been sewn together and now I need to decide if I want to stop here or add a border to the piece. At this point the table runner is 38 inches from point to point and 15 inches wide. I’m thinking that quilting and binding is probably the best option in order to keep the piece quick and easy.

I really love how the coloured pieces just sort of float in space with the black background.

What to do with the other blocks I made last week? Well, that’s a decision for another day and another post.

Happy Quilting!
