Quilting in progress on the Granny's Choice Quilt

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Free Form/Motion Friday.

Today I sandwiched the Granny’s Choice quilt after adding a border to it the other day.

Picked a variegated grey/black thread from Blendables line by Sulky. This is a 30 weight cotton thread so the stitching will stand out on the quilt.

And started quilting with the walking foot in a spiral of each pinwheel section. The distance between stitching lines is a ½″ which is also the distance from the needle to the edge of my walking foot. This meant no extra marking or measuring and I could get on with the quilting. I could have done this with the free motion foot as well but I really wanted it to be precise and straight so went with the walking foot.

Around the grey and black box that outlines the pinwheel I quilted with straight lines to mimic the square.

The square encompassing the pinwheel is quilted with a straight line

Then more spirals in the corners.

It is coming together very nicely. I do need to do a bit of stitch in the ditch in the very centre to make the seam lie down flat or add a decorative button.

Here’s a close up of a 12 inch Granny’s Choice block.

Not much left to be quilted, then to pull those threads through and add the binding and I can tick another UFO off the list.

Happy Quilting!
