Hey Everyone, welcome back to Story Time Monday.
You may have remembered that a year ago my Purely Canadian design and pattern was unveiled using the Oh Canada Stonehenge fabric line from Northcott. It was very well received indeed. Since then they have added more fabric and it is called Oh Canada II.
Version 1 – the original quilt
Version 2 – multi coloured
One of my pattern testers decided she didn’t want her quilt and so I jumped at the chance to purchase it from her. Finally a couple of weeks ago I had it quilted and it looks fabulous. Shelley did the quilt in all different colours and mostly batiks. A close up of the maple leaf centre of this quilt is featured at the top of the page. A very different look from my red, black and cream version.
I think it looks fabulous and Michelle with some help from Larry at Briarwood Sew & Quilt did an awesome job of the quilting. An all over maple leaf design with a different border design and custom cornerstones. I was speechless when I saw it.
Version 3 – brown, blue and cream
The third version is my brown, blue and cream version I made for the BOM class I taught last year. I love the look of this one and had pulled all my colours from a single fabric that I was going to use for the border. Unfortunately, when I put the leaf fabric beside the quilt body it just didn’t work – too muddy so I used it for the backing. I tried a few other fabrics and decided to go borderless as I wasn’t happy with any of them and wasn’t going shopping. Trying to blast that stash not add to it.
I think it looks good with only the delectable mountains flanking the maple leaf. A bit smaller for those who don’t want to make a huge quilt.
Michelle and Larry did the quilting on this one as well. A very tight curving line – I was totally speechless when I saw this one. As Michael was photographing it today the quilting looked like waving wheat fields in the wind. This is so appropriate since I am from Southern Saskatchewan the home of wheat fields.
This quilt was great for blasting the stash – a few metres used up for the front and the back.
I will have both quilts on display along with the original one and the pattern for sale at my Creativfestival booth next week in Toronto. The show takes place at the Metro Toronto Centre October 25 – 27. I am booth #500.
Drop on by to say hi and see the quilts. I look forward to chatting with you.
