Triangles stitched on fabric

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Free Motion Friday.

I started out making strings of popcorn. Remember when you were a kid and you would string a whole bowl of popcorn onto thread with a needle? Now that I think about it that would have been one very long piece of thread seeing how the popcorn strings usually went all the way around the classroom. Anyway the popcorn strings didn’t really resemble popcorn so I moved onto triangles.

The triangles on the other hand do resemble triangles and are so super easy to make. Just 3 easy steps.

Step 1

Start your free motion stitching and then stitch a straight line at a slight angle to the first bit of stitching to create the first side of the triangle.

Follow arrows to stitch first side of triangle

Stitch first side of triangle

Step 2

At the end of the first side make a turn and stitch another straight line of about the same length as the first.

Continue following the arrows to stitch the second side

Stitch the second side of the triangle

Step 3

At the end of the second side turn and stitch up to the top of the first line to join the triangle. Continue off from the triangle with your free motion meandering.

Stitch the last side to complete the triangle

Third side added to complete the triangle

Repeat the above steps to make many triangles amongst some meandering.

A fun little motif for a kids quilt, modern quilts, geometric quilts or to fill in an empty space.

How many different types of triangles can you make? Have fun playing, I know I will.

Happy Quilting!
