Star block with border

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

Yesterday, I showed how to create an fast and easy LeMoyne Star block using half square triangles. I had so much fun with that wonderful fabric that I just had to create a couple more stars.

I made 2 more stars but this time they were 8 inch blocks. To make the 8 inch blocks cut the corner background squares 2 ½″ and all the squares for the half square triangles 3 ¼″. They will be squared up to 2 ½″.

The fabric does create some challenges when designing with it as most of the prints in the line are directional.

I added squares to two sides of the block and had to cut each square individually so as to get the trees going in the right direction. I was still able to cut across the WOF but if I had wanted to use rectangles I would have had to cut along the selvedge in order to the trees going right side up.

Well, that’s about all I did and as I sit here writing this post another idea has popped into my head as to how to add to the piece. This one is sort of an impromptu design as I go.

Just a little look at the rest of the fabric line.

Tune in next week to see what else has been done. I am thinking there might have to be some blocks that look like presents.

Not sure it will get done for this Christmas but at least I have started to use up some more fabric from the stash.

Happy Quilting!
