Hey Everyone, welcome back to Stash Blasting Wednesday.

I blasted my stash a bit this week by donating some fabrics for a quilt the Orillia Quilters’ Guild made for the Syrian refugee family that will be coming to live in Orillia. I donated a few pieces and a few metres as backing for both the quilts we made.

We had a great day sewing, designing and laughing while doing something good for a family we haven’t met yet. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of the day as I didn’t take my camera – definitely an oversight on my part as I’m sure you all would have liked to see what we made.

Anyway I do have a photo of my finished Abstract Landscapes piece. I even delivered it to the museum on time. I am extremely pleased with how it turned out and I can’t wait to make another one with this process and technique. I still have lots of upholstery swatches to put to use.

Here it is the finished piece. The piece is 20″ x 70″ and was made to look like a piece of film or picture negatives. The small grey squares running down the sides equal 88 in number – boy was I tired of the burlap stitch by the time I finished this piece. But it it is very effective and gave the effect I desired.

A negative strip depicting 5 diverse landscapes of my life

A film reel of 5 different landscapes that I have been fortunate to call home

And here is the story that goes along with it. With the theme of the show being Women’s Stories this piece reflects some of the places I have called home over my lifetime.

Abstract Landscapes: Snapshots of My Life

Frame #1 – Saskatchewan the province of wide open spaces, flowing wheat fields and living skies where my life began.

Frame #2 – Alberta the province of the majestic Rocky Mountains, never ceasing to bring wonderment, amazement and adventure with each visit and view.

Frame #3 – Northwest Territories the land of the midnight sun, snow and northern lights that left a lasting impact on who I am.

Frame #4 – Australia the land of red sand, blue sky and sunshine whose warmth I will always feel and is fondly remembered.

Frame #5 – Ontario home of cottage country where time stands still as I sit relaxing on the lake shore in a Muskoka chair enjoying the scenery and serenity.

I am lucky to have called these places home and to be inspired by the experiences each has provided me.

If you are in Orillia between February 13 and April 10 do stop by the museum and check out the Women’s Day Art Show. It is going to be fabulous.

Happy Quilting!
