colourful yarn on a shelf

Hey Everyone, welcome back to Coffee Talk Saturday.

The other day I went on a road trip with my husband’s parents and we went to the small village of Jordan which is in the Niagara region of Ontario. This is a gorgeous area of the province with all of its orchards and wineries. Lots to see and do besides buying fruit at the road side stands or tasting wine at all of the wineries.

We went specifically to buy a spinning wheel (not for me – I can’t spin but my mother-in-law certainly can) at a shop in Jordan, Ontario called The Fibre Garden. A great little place in an old house. Lots of fibre and yarn in every colour imaginable – oh the colour was magnificent, I was in heaven.

Beautiful colours

Alan & John the owners were lots of fun, friendly and very helpful. John is The Dyeguy and dyes yarns into many scrumptious colours. Alan also known as The Battman takes fibres and puts them together into batts making up many yummy colour combinations.

After purchasing some roving which was half price – bonus! I am going to use it to try out felting with the help of my friend Elizabeth.  Next stop lunch at Jordan House, the local pub.

On the way we found another shop called stitch- A Sanctuary for Knitters, Quilters and Needle Artists owned by Jocelyn. We walked by, yep right on by but then on the way back we went in. Another great shop not only for knitters, spinners and weavers but quilters too. One side of the shop is yarn and fibre while the other is fabric. I had a great time looking around and of course purchasing. The shop is once again in an old house which dates back to the mid 1800’s.

I found some great fabrics that had the look and feel of African fabrics. I purchased 15 different ones – most half metres which I am sure I will wish they were metre lengths but I can always go on a road trip for more. The fabrics do have a purpose which I will reveal in next week’s post.

And the best deal of the day was a 3 pound bag of fresh picked peaches for a grand total of 2 dollars. They are delicious.

Thank you to my father-in-law for the use of the first 3 photos.

Happy Quilting!
